The Hammond Organ was introduced in 1935 has earned a reputation of being the most dependable, and versatile organ the industry has every produced. The Hammond Organ was invented for the purpose of substituting the expensive pipe organ at low cost, without requiring large amount of space. The instrument does not employ pipes, and the tones are electronically generated and produced using a unique method of additive synthesis. The Hammond Organ produces many pipe-organ-like tones without using pre-recorded pipe organ sounds other than by combining sine waves of different pitches. Hammond is one the the world's finest selections of tone wheel and drawbar Vintage organs. Tones in these organs are generated by tone wheels mounted on a shaft, turning at a constant speed. As a result, they never require tuning and temperature or humitidy changes have no effect. Maintenance costs are minimal.
The Hammond Organ story began in a loft over an Evanston grocery store. Owners and players range over all areas of American life--former presidents, baseball players, famous entertainers, the many professional organists that have played Hammond Organs over the past fifty years and of course the multitude of home and hobby organists which have developed as a result of the over 1,000,000 Hammond Organs which have been manufactured and sold since that first Hammond Model A made its appearance at the U.S. Patent Office in 1934.
